HOT WEATHER REPAIRING

With the high temperatures we are experiencing in many states I wanted to talk about cooing the windshield before performing a repair. There are a few ways to cool the windshield. If you are in a very hot climate where temperatures are around 95 degrees or hotter you will need to cool the windshield down before performing a repair.

#1 Use a canopy such as an Easy Up is worth the investment. You can also use it for signage and it will keep the sun off you as well. Be sure to check with your property manager and city zoning to make sure you can use one. If you do not have one or cannot use one, or even need to cool the windshield down further here are some further suggestions.

#2 Use a clear tape such as packing tape and put a piece over the impact point making sure it is flush and will not allow moisture to get in underneath it, then spray with a water bottle around the area maybe 1 foot or so with a mist to cool the windshield down. Then dry the windshield and pull off the clear tape and perform the repair.

#3 Step up in viscosity of resin from 20cps to 45cps unless you are working on a tight star then stick with the 20cps resin.

#4 Turn the air condition on and send the flow to the defroster to cool the windshield down. I like this option the best because it can be used anywhere and you can keep the cool air flowing during the repair process.
