How to Clean the Tools

The Windshield Repair Kits.net tools can be cleaned with Rubbing Alcohol, Denatured Alcohol and Acetone. I find Denatured Alcohol works the best. You can purchase it at any Wall mart, Home Depot or Paint Store. If you are using the Aluminum tools you do not need to clean them very often because the resin is not in contact with the treads. With the Molded tools the resin is in contact with the treads so they do need cleaned after a repair. Just soak them for two to three minutes and you may leave the O-Rings attached to the piston because they are designed to be in contact with chemicals. I have a quart jug with a lid and I leave the injector in the tool and just drop it into the alcohol solution and put the lid on. If you have a tool that has been left out in the sun and is very caked up with resin you can soak the tools longer even overnight however you should remove the O-Rings if you are going to soak overnight as they may swell.

Next when to Drill Legs on a Star
Lori from Texas had this question.

The general rule is when a leg is over 1 inch it may need to be drilled on the end. Usually you will have one leg on a star that is longer than the rest telling you it needs more attention. First I like to drill right at the tip just past the tip and tap a dry bulls-eye to make sure the leg does not expand when I put pressure on the star during repair. I usually start by injecting from the original impact point after I have drilled and tapped the original impact point if necessary. This way you can see how far down the leg the resin goes. Usually the resin will go all the way to the drill then I slide the tool over and inject the bulls-eye and finish injecting the original impact point, However if the resin does not go all the way down the leg I can still inject from the bulls-eye I tapped at the end of the leg and back fill the part of the leg that has not taking resin.

Thank You Lori from Texas for the question! I hope this answer is helpful. If any one has a question such as Lori please email me and I will try to answer it for you.

There will be a newsletter in May also.
